We’ve all been there. The outfits are perfectly coordinated, the location is picked, and the investment has been made. But as you’re driving to your photo session, your blood pressure starts to rise. You’re practicing your stern "we will have fun or else" voice in the rearview mirror, praying the kids don’t stain their clothes, and hoping your partner doesn’t look completely miserable the entire time.
Take a deep breath. Let it out.
As a photographer who has spent years behind the lens capturing families and couples, I’m here to let you in on a little secret: the perfect portrait isn’t born from perfect behavior. It’s born from real life.
My absolute highest priority isn’t just delivering beautiful, true-to-color images; it’s ensuring that the entire experience feels safe, carefree, and genuinely easy for you from start to finish. Here is how we make that happen.
1. Kids Will Be Kids (And That’s Exactly What We Want)
If you expect your toddlers to sit perfectly still, look at my lens, and say "cheese" on command for an hour, I have some great news for you: I don’t expect that at all.
Kids are balls of pure, unscripted energy. When we try to force them into rigid, unnatural poses, it usually leads to tears (yours or theirs!). My approach is rooted in ultimate patience. If your little one wants to explore, pick up a stick, or run in a circle, we let them.
I’ve learned that the magic happens when we wait for the right moments. The real magic isn't the stiff, posed portrait; it’s the split-second in-between shots. It’s the moment right after they finish laughing at a silly joke, the way they tightly hold your hand when they get tired, or the spontaneous, toothy grin they flash when they think no one is looking. I am always snapping through those transitions, capturing the authentic essence of who they are right now.
2. Husbands Will Be Husbands 😉
Let’s be honest—historically, portrait sessions haven't topped the list of favorite activities for partners. I get it! No one wants to feel awkward, stiff, or directed like a mannequin.
My sessions are designed to feel entirely different. There’s no pressure to perform. We don’t do forced, painful smiling for sixty minutes straight. Instead, I focus on natural interaction. I’ll give you simple, fun prompts that get you moving, talking, and laughing together.
Before they know it, the husbands usually realize, "Oh, this is just hanging out and enjoying my family while someone happens to have a camera." When the pressure is off, the genuine warmth naturally comes forward.
3. A Carefree Atmosphere Equals Timeless Images
The secret to a stunning, natural photograph is an environment where you feel safe to just be.
No Rushing: We have plenty of time. If a baby needs a snack break, a diaper change, or just a minute to cuddle, we pause. The clock isn't an enemy.
Earthy, Authentic Visuals: Because my style focuses on a natural, true-to-color aesthetic, you don't have to worry about looking over-processed or trendy. Your memories will look exactly like you remember them—warm, real, and full of life.
Guidance, Not Control: I will gently guide your movement so you look your best, but I will never force a moment that doesn't feel like you.
Relax. You’re in Safe Hands.
Your only job during our time together is to show up and love on your people. Let me worry about the lighting, the angles, and the timing.
So, leave the stress at home. Let the kids be wild, let your partner relax, and let’s capture the beautiful, messy, wonderful truth of your life together. I promise you, those unscripted, breathing moments in between the poses will become the photos you cherish the most.
